Marks of Fitness...the step-by-step workout which forms a foundation of fitness to last a lifetime
Hi, I'm Mark Edwards, a YMCA Level 3 qualified personal teacher with more than 10 years' experience. I train clients at my home gym in Colchester, public parks and at clients' homes.
I've devised a training system, Marks of Fitness, which gives people of all starting fitness abilities a step-by-step system of evr-building short term, achievable goals which will inspire them towards huge improvements in fitness, movement, strength and wellbeing. I believe it will help you if any of the scenarios below strike a chord...
- You've given up on a fitness regime because of an injury, shoulder, knee, ankle or hip pain that training just seems to make worse.
- You stick to a training regimen, but it only seems to leave you sore, stiff and shattered once it's over.
- You have a stressful job with long hours and never feel like you have the energy, time or focus to dedicate to working out as well.
- You are middle aged or older and feel the opportunity to have the physique and energy you had in your 20s is gone.
- You feel intimidated by gyms, YouTubers and TV stars showing off their limber physiques and gymnastic abilities. Any time you've tried to emulate them you've just got hurt.
Perhaps you see yourself up there. A couple of them used to apply to me, but I'm now in my late 40s with a muscular physique, and still able to build more muscle, with a six-pack rather than a burgeoning paunch. I can also run a six-minute mile. I'm not telling you this to brag, but rather to show you that this, and more, is possible. Just a couple of years ago I was in a right state with agonising knee pain, mobility issues that restricted the efficacy of my workouts - and even the way I breathed - and tissue inflammation that meant I was perpetually feeling sore and tired. Check out the blog on this site for more grisly details on what a wreck I was. What got me back on the road to wellness was overhauling the way I worked out. I stripped down all my key movements, even down to the way I walked, to ensure that any fitness gains I subsequently made were from perfect foundations and I'd guard myself from injury and pain and just start enjoying the potential of my body again.
I want all my clients to attack their fitness goals by focusing on perfect exercise technique, sticking to drills to correct any musculoskeletal imbalances and building the mobility to optimise performance and results. Far too often, in gyms, I see trainers seemingly casting a blind eye to their client's poor form or imbalances - perhaps they are not sure how to fix it or are concerned pointing it our will affect the pumped up mood of the session. Well, nothing may go wrong that session, but by ingraining poor movement it will somewhere along the line and the resulting injury could leave you not training at all for some time.
The checklist of standards - the Marks of Fitness - I personally set for each client must be performed to the required standard before we can move on and set new 'marks'. It will take discipline and determination on both our parts, but I will be there for you. I will also be there with advice on mindset to instil the mental discipline to stick to the workouts as well as nutrition plans to ensure you are fueling your workouts and recovering from them. Get it right from the beginning with Marks of Fitness.
